Arthroscopic Skills
The Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit (MATTU) in Guildford is a state of the art training facility that has knee, shoulder and ankle arthroscopy trainers that are available for KSS trainees to use to develop skills and practice techniques. It also provides an excellent place to organise arthroscopic training sessions.
The arthroscopic trainers and equipment is of an excellent standard allowing practice of a wide range of key arthroscopic skills.

To book a session to use the equipment, follow the steps below:

Step 2: Click on the links below to check availability and book a session.
There are 4x knee simulators, 4x shoulder simulators and 3x ankle simulators. These will generally be available to use Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Please be aware that the MATTU also hosts a large variety of different surgical training courses and so the arthroscopic simulators may not be available if the training suite is being used for a course.

Step 3: On the day of your session
Please ensure you respect the facility and clean up after yourselves. If you require any assistance whilst you are at the MATTU, contact Alison Snook (MATTU Business Manager). Her office is situated in the centre of the MATTU and contact details can be found on the MATTU website. Please also contact Alison with any equipment problems.

Please follow the social distancing and face-covering instructions of the MATTU at all times whilst using the facility during the Covid pandemic.

- Log-in to your google account
- Click a time slot
- Under ‘Description’ please enter your full name, contact number, base hospital and training level’
- Click ‘Save’ to confirm booking
- You will receive a confirmation email and the booking will be added to your google calendar

Step 3: On the day of your session
- Follow the instructions on the MATTU website for directions to the facility.
- The MATTU is situated on the 1st floor of the Leggett Building
- Follow the instruction in the induction video (Step 1) to set up the arthroscopic simulator.
- For a workbook with guidance on training skills to practice (please download the document at the bottom of this page)
- Once finished with the equipment tidy your workspace, dispose of used equipment and place the simulator and equipment neatly back into the cabinet.
- Ensure to evidence your training onto ISCP through a simulated PBA, DOPS, Journal or ‘other evidence’.
