Guidance to the regulations and requirements for obtaining CCT.
1. JCST
You need to sign up with the JCST, within six months of obtaining a National Training Number. All fees must be paid in full annually. You will not be awarded a CCT without this. www.jcst.org/uk-trainees/str-trainees/certification/certification-dates-from-june-2016-onwards/
2. LAT posts
If you wish to have a LAT post recognised for training, this must be done within your first year of obtaining a National Training Number. Late registration will not be accepted. Guidance is available on the JCST website: www.jcst.org/uk-trainees/lats-and-ftstas/
3. JCST Quality Indicators/CCT Requirements
The quality indicators for trauma and orthopaedic training have now replaced the JCST Standards.
www.jcst.org/quality-assurance/certification-guidelines-and-checklists/
Questions regarding the minimum number of PBAs for the JCST and the requirements of an MSF etc. are answered here.
For London managed trainees the target number of PBAs is 40 for the year (not 80 as previously).
4. ISCP
Registration and use of the ISCP is not optional and has been mandatory since 2007. This may come as a surprise to some of you. However, you as the trainee are responsible for documenting and recording your training and providing the evidence to allow the ARCP panel to assess your progress.
www.iscp.ac.uk/
If you wish to have an ARCP in abstentia, then only evidence uploaded onto the ISCP will be considered.

6. FRCS Tr & Ortho Exam
Both the London Deanery and the KSS Deanery have agreed that no one will be allowed to sit the exit exam till ST7. ( Yr 5 of your training) The pass rate has fallen in recent years and reflects that this is an exit exam - not a mid rotation exam. You do not have sufficient experience after only 50% of your training.
SE London Trainees - will need to be signed off as attended and passed either the Hastings or King’s FRCS Orth courses in Yr 4/5 . Attendance at the mandatory teaching will also need to be 80% for all semesters. Mr Kavaparthu and Mr A Ajuied are in charge of this process
7. Fellowships
Fellowships will be considered after CCT. In your final year, there is leeway if you have all indicative numbers, all courses and requirements obtained and you have passed the exam.
8. Added time
From April 2013, more than 2 weeks out of your rotation in anyone year (except for annual and study leave) will be added to your CCT date.
This includes maternity, paternity, sick, parental, exceptional and any other forms of leave.
You will need to bring to your ARCP a list of your leave for the year, on hospital headed note paper, signed by your departmental manager and Educational Supervisor.
9. Revalidation
http://www.gmc-uk.org/REV___Information_for_doctors_in_training___DC3384.pdf_51723376.pdf
You are responsible for gathering the information and evidence for your revalidation. Failure to produce this evidence at your annual ARCP will mean that you will experience difficulties being revalidated when you are awarded your CCT. As you have been collecting and recording your professional development on the ISCP since 2007, this should not be difficult for you to achieve. An ARCP 2 outcome will be issued if you do not produce the evidence in the required format for you to revalidate.
10. Form R
Failure to attend your ARCP with a completed Form R will result in an Outcome 5.
Approved by TPDs of London (South), Kent, Surrey and Sussex, June 2017
